8th Grade Life Science Short-term Parental Leave Coverage

Teachers at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School (PVPA) provide students with a supportive and challenging environment that is responsive to multiple learning styles, emphasizes learning through the arts and integrates critical and creative thinking throughout the curriculum. Now in our twenty-first year, PVPA prepares all of our students for higher education by employing a rigorous, standards-based curriculum in a nurturing and collaborative environment.

PVPA has an opportunity for a dynamic middle school Life Science teacher from March 6, 2017 to April 14, 2017. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who enjoys working with colleagues and loves working with middle school students.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach four blocks of 8th grade Life Science, one block of 7th/8th Homework Support; and one block of prep
  • Attend and participate in weekly collaborative planning time and team, grade level, department and faculty meetings
  • Prepare classroom materials and curricula
  • Use the scientific practices to engage students in learning
  • Assess student work and provide timely and specific feedback to students
  • Contact parents early and often to provide updates on student progress
  • Provide feedback through required grade/narrative reports; complete and submit reports by prescribed due date
  • Facilitate MCAS testing when scheduled during school hours
  • Adhere to all policies in the Staff Handbook and Student/Parent Handbook
  • Other duties as required

Hours:  Mon & Thurs 8:30am-1:20pm; Tue & Wed 8:30am-2:35pm; Fri 8:30am-4:15pm

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Eligible for Highly Qualified Teacher status
  • CORI & Fingerprinting check

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Two years of teaching experience
  • Experience with middle school students
  • Massachusetts certification in subject area
